The Best Days of the Year - Ten Days of Dhul Hijah
1. Good deeds are more beloved to Allah
"There are no days during which good deeds are more beloved by Allaah than these (ten) days." The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, was then asked: "Not even Jihaad in Allaah’s way?" He replied: "Not even Jihaad in Allaah’s way; except for a person who went out (for Jihaad) with his self and wealth and came back with none (i.e. lost all for Allaah)."[Bukhari 969]
Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali (may Allah have mercy on him) said,” It appears and Allah knows best that good deeds practiced during these ten days are superior to any other ten days during any other month” La’taif al Ma’arif
2. It’s recommended to be involved in a lot Thikr.
And mention the Name of Allah on appointed days [ Hajj 28]
Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “The majority of the scholars view the appointed days as the ten days of Dhul Hijah.”
3. They are included in the days Allah appointed for Musa (peace and blessings be upon him)
And We appointed for Musa (Moses) thirty nights and added (to the period) ten (more), and he completed the term, appointed by his Lord, of forty nights [Al-A’raf142]
4. Allah completed His religion on the 9th
This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.[ Al-Ma’idah 3]
5. The sacrifice is done on the Eid and this is the Sunnah of Ibraheem.
6. Allah frees more slaves from the fire on Arafah than any other day.
The Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “There is no day on which Allah frees more of His slaves from Fire than the Day of Arafah, and He verily draws near, then boasts of them before the angles, saying: ‘What do they seek?’” (Sahih Muslim1348)
There is great virtue in Fasting on the 9th.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of of Arafah. He said,” Fasting the day of `Arafah expiates the [minor] sins of two years: a past one and a coming one”. [Muslim 1162]
7. Eid Al-Adha is the 10th
8. These are the days for Hajj
The Hajj (pilgrimage) is (in) the well-known (lunar year) months [ Al-Baqarah 197]*the other days are Shawwal and Dhul Qa’idah
9 Allah swears by these days.
1 By the dawn;
2. By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah),
3. And by the even and the odd . [ Fajr 1-3 ]
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “ The ten are the ten days of Dhul- Hijjah and the odd is the Day of Arafah and the even is the Eid [ Ahmed 3/ 327 and Bazzar 2286] Ibn Rajab graded the isnad of this hadeeth as being Hasan.
Taken from La’taif al Ma’rif and Tafseer ibn Katheer
Revive this Act during the 10 days of Dhul HijJah
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “There isn’t any day better to Allah when deeds done are more beloved to Him , than in these ten days (Dhul Hijjah). Therefore, frequently say during them, “ La-Ila ha Ill Allah and Allahu Akbar and Al-Hamdulilah.”
Collected by Abu Uwanah in Mustakraj (2431), Ahmed (2/75) At-Tahawi (2973 ) in Mushkil. Ahmed Shakir , Al-Munthari, As-Saa’ati, and Shuaib Ar-naaut have graded this hadeeth as being Saheeh.
Benefits for this subject:
Shaykh Abdullah ibn Fawzan said “Remembering Allah during the ten days of Dhul Hijja is among the righteous deeds that can be practiced, along with Dua, and seeking Allah’s forgiveness. In fact these deeds are legislated to be practiced all the time. The remembrances of Allah can be achieved by saying, ““ La-Ila ha Ill Allah and Allahu Akbar and Al-Hamdulilah. and Subhanallah” [ Majalis Asharah Dhul Hija]
At-Tahawi [ (321H) may Allah have mercy on him] said, “ How is that good deeds during these ten days have such high merit as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned, however he didn’t fast during them? And fasting is among the most virtuous of deeds?
Answer: It’s possible that he didn’t fast the ten days of dhul Hija from what Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated. She said, “Whenever he fasted he wouldn’t regularly practice other deeds which were greater to Allah. " Praying, remembering Allah, and reading the Quran are all greater in merit than fasting.
Ibn Masud said, “Praying is more beloved to me than fasting”.
Therefore based on what Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that he (peace and bleesings be upon him) didn’t fast those days; as he was busy practicing other acts of worship. These other acts of Ebaddah are higher in value than fasting. Nonetheless, fasting during these ten days is an enormous and righteous act of worship. Especially, as this hadeeth states that, acts done during these ten days are more beloved to Allah than any other day/s. Based on this hadeeth, there isn’t anything that prevents the Muslim from fasting therein, in particularly if he has the ability to fast and perform other acts of worship to draw closer to Allah.[Sharh Mushkil Athar by At-Tahawi.]
It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are no days that are greater before Allaah or in which good deeds are more beloved to Him,... than these ten days, so recite a great deal of tahleel, takbeer and tahmeed during them.” Narrated by Ahmad, 7/224; its isnaad was classed as saheeh by Ahmad Shaakir.
The takbeer is as follows:
Allaah akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, Allaahu akbar, wa Lillaah il-hamd (Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great, there is no god but Allaah; Allaah is Most Great and to Allaah be praise).
And there are other versions.
This takbeer has become a forsaken Sunnah nowadays, especially at the beginning of these ten days. You can hardly hear it except from a few. It should be recited out loud, so as to revive the Sunnah and remind the heedless. It was proven that Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with them both) used to go out to the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, reciting the takbeer our loud, and the people would recite takbeer when they heard them, i.e., the people would remember the talkbeer and each one would recite it by himself; it does not mean that they recited in unison – that is not prescribed in sharee’ah.
